Motorola: “Project Ara” the next wave of smart-phone innovation, inspired by Phonebloks by Dave Hakkens.

Hey Folks!

Here’s another interesting insight I would like to share with you all!

With the latest iPhone 5S & Samsung Note-III popping out in the market like no-bodies-business, I was was wondering if…

you have heard about…Phonebloks?

Earlier this year, I posted a video on my Facebook Page to share with you all about this amazing concept that is going to revolutionize the way we think, feel and use Smart-Phones.This brilliant concept was first introduced by Dave Hakkens, a Designer from the Netherlands who like to make machines, videos and vegetables.

The whole idea emerged from this simple thought which Dave explains: “A phone only lasts a couple of years before it breaks or becomes obsolete. Although it’s often just one part which killed it we throw everything away since it’s almost impossible to repair or upgrade. ” This led to him into thinking about why not make something better that doesn’t have to be destroyed after a few use and we even customise it to suit our needs and wants?

Check out this video out if you haven’t!

Well, I guess many of you might be thinking right now..”’s never gonna happen”, “No company in the world will be crazy enough to spend that kind of time and resources to make it”. There simply too many interested parties we have to engage and that is not likely to happen with this ever-competitive market!

what the phonebloks needs

Guess What! It’s happening right this very moment as we speak!

Motorola, is now one of many companies such as YouTube that is owned by Google. One very good reason why this possibility can become a reality.

Today, I would like to introduce to you the next phase of Motorola, called:

“Project Ara”

Project Ara, described by the Google subsidiary as “a free, open hardware platform for creating highly modular smartphones”.

A paragraph taken from Motorola’s Official Blog has this to say: “The design for Project Ara consists of what we call an endoskeleton (endo) and modules.  The endo is the structural frame that holds all the modules in place. A module can be anything, from a new application processor to a new display or keyboard, an extra battery, a pulse oximeter–or something not yet thought of!”

This pretty much answers most of your doubts, they are thinking BIG! With this thought in mind, we can rest assure that the next line of product coming out from hereon will most certainly blow our minds!

I know many of you out there might be still be skeptical about whether they will succeed or not. But hey, after all, Motorola did developed the first truly global communication network using a set of 66 satellites on May 5th, 1997.

Have a little faith in them!!

Paul Eremenko on behalf of the Motorola Advanced Technology and Projects group, Project Ara Team has this to say:

“We’ve done deep technical work. Dave created a community. The power of open requires both. So we will be working on Project Ara in the open, engaging with the Phonebloks community throughout our development process”.

That’s not all!

Motorola is inviting people across the globe to become Ara Scouts. Over the next year, you can collaborate with them on “Special Missions” that will shape the direction of Project Ara.

These series of “missions” that will ask you to share your impressions, feedback and ideas about Project Ara. You’ll use the free “dscout” app to participate. If together we can make Project Ara a success, 100 of the most active scouts will receive an early release version at no cost.

I’ve had the opportunity to cover one of Singapore’s very own star Sylvester Sim, better known as “SLY”. The Entertainment Manager of SONAR by NEVERLAND, along with his artiste Zi Jie, had their recent hair works done up by Ivan Seah over at Peridot Hair Salon.

Just within a few hours and the transformation of turning both of the artiste into Japanese Rock Star renditions were completed. An added touch to this look can be felt from the style of execution which is perfected overtime through countless of Ivan’s customers and regular clients.

When asked as to what SLY thought about the service,

“One thing for sure he is my friend. But no matter how bad or lousy a friend is, you will still say words like ‘Thank you’ and ‘Not bad’. But too bad SLY is an honest in the face person. He has fulfilled all that I was into…from styling and colors from many places that I have been to, Ivan’s service is still the best.”

I’ve asked him to describe Ivan in one word and SLY immediately responded:

“I’ll say ‘Patient’, he always take his Job slowly and seriously.”

Over the interview, I probed Ivan with 5 Questions into understanding more about himself and what he would like you all to know about him.

1)    How it all started out for you in hair dressing?

“My interest in hair dressing developed way back in 2005 upon approached by a friend’s band for hair-styling during a Japanese Rock gig. This eventually sparked an interest within me to pursue further into developing his skills as a stylist.”
