Coming this 21.NOV.2015, INKT will make their very first appearance here in Singapore! So what better way to kick of the excitement with an interview with the Koki & the band!

[INTERVIEW WITH INKT]

  • Lukai: What does the name INKT stands for? How did you came up with it?

INKT: By definition, INKT can mean a type of paint but on a deeper level, our band name symbolises our desire to colour our listeners with our fresh new colour. Individually, our musical roots are different, and we are all from different backgrounds. But when we come together to make music as INKT, we create something new and different.

  • Lukai: Fans of Koki Tanaka have always looked forward to his iconic voice as a rapper. Since his (KAT-TUN) days, with a mostly Hip-hop influenced style, how has this style changed so far?

INKT: I don’t think I’ve ever thought of music in absolutes. There was never a specific genre that I had to follow. There is just so much I want to convey through my music, and I think what you see now is the best way I have found to make that wish concrete. A song doesn’t have to be hip hop in order to have rap in it. Some of the songs do contain rap and I think it’s really a kind of weapon that I can use, wherever I go.

  • Lukai: What is the direction of your music changed through this band now? How does the members think of themselves being a part of the band?

INKT: I think as a band, we came together with our individual visions and emotions about the kind of music we wanted to create. We didn’t really just form the band and decide on a particular style or direction. It just so happened that we all shared a common vision and desire. We’re really close friends, and I can speak for the other members when I say we all want to be a part of INKT, even if it means ending up alone.

  • Lukai: Why choose Rock as a genre? What was the motivation of your choice?

INKT: We didn’t just come out and decide “Hey! Let’s do Rock!” We wanted to do something that would embody our passion as friends who came together to make the music that we want to make. I think that was the feeling that we were really pursuing.

  • Lukai: Your music sends out energetic vibes for hope and freedom, a reminder to us all never to look back and keep moving forward. If there is a message you’d like to send out to your fans, or to someone feeling lost and helpless, what would that message be?

INKT: It might be that what people feel through our music also reflects the message we want to give our fans.

There are many people who give up their dreams and lose their way. But there is no need to give up. Age has nothing to do with it.

If that message can reach even one person through our live performances or way of life, I think we’d be really happy.

  • Lukai: This is the first time INKT will be performing in Singapore. Please share with us your feelings for the coming Live at the Skechers Sundown Festival. Is there any place in Singapore you’ll like to visit in particular, or food you’ll like to try?

INKT: We still get nervous performing on stage. But at the same time, we’re really excited. I’ve heard that Singapore has beautiful night scenery and it’s one of the countries I’ve been wanting to visit. I don’t know how much time we will have, but I’d love to do lots of sightseeing!

Alice Nine’s love for Singapore and their local fans

Feeling the passion from fans in Singapore over the years, last year’s solo concert in this sunny island was even released as a DVD, viewed by Alice Nine fans in Japan and all over the world. “This is our third time coming to Singapore for performance, furthermore, it will be our first time holding a solo concert in Singapore over two days!” said Shou, vocalist of Alice Nine. Tora, guitarist of Alice Nine also expressed his excitement about coming back to Singapore, saying that he wants to change “Merlion” into “Mer-tiger”. “Tora” means tiger in Japanese.

Touring China, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan this year, Singapore is the one of the two stops with two days of concert performance. On top of that, fans who are coming for both days on VIP tickets get to receive a free autographed copy of their upcoming CD release titled “Ginga no oto” , two autographed posters and attend a handshaking session with the band members after each show. The CD will be sold only at the band’s concerts, making it a rare catch.

Alice Nine hopes to reach out not only to their fans in Japan, but also overseas fans by touring to their countries and have closer in-person interaction with their fans through their performance.  The band is hyped up to rock the island again.

Alice Nine’s vision through working with world-renowned creators

Alice Nine consists of five members: Shou (Vo), Tora (Gu), Hiroto (Gu), Saga (Ba) and Nao (Dr). The band was formed in 2004 and quickly rose to become a popular Visual Kei rock band in Japan and gained many overseas fans. Some of their songs have been picked as theme songs for Japanese anime and TV shows. Other than having appeared on NHK’s J-melo (music program made for Japanese music fans in the world), Alice Nine has performed in many countries in Asia, United States and Europe in the past years.

In their latest band image, the members wore white to symbolize starting anew with a clean slate. Their costumes were designed by world-renowned designer, Yuma Koshino, who has acquainted Alice Nine’s vocalist, Shou, through a TV program where they’d worked together. The band’s image photos were taken by photographer Hiro Kimura, who has worked with international and Japanese artists such as Lenny Kravitz and Ken Watanabe. Art direction was handled by Toshiyuki Suzuki from United Lounge. By bringing together the powers of world-renowned creators, Alice Nine aims to produce works that will appeal not only to the Japanese audience, but also to the world.

Other than collaborations for their visual image, this time, Alice Nine has also worked with Ryo Yoshimata and Koichirou Muroya on their new song titled “Freesia no saku basho”. Yoshimata has composed music for movies and NHK Taiga dramas such as Princess Atsu and Go: Himetachi no Sengoku. Muroya has worked with many J-pop artistes such as MISIA, aiko, Ken Hirai and has contributed to the beautiful full orchestra sounds in the new song.

To show Singapore’s diversity and rojak culture, the t-shirts will cover a wide range of styles and genres, from pop art to street wear and illustration among others. Look out for some of the designers’ favorite pieces like the quirky ‘I Love Laksa’, ‘Heartlander’ and ‘Lorong Lew Lian’.

Weaver at Skechers Sundown Festival 2014 (Interview)

Sundown2014-Weaver-v2

Coming this 22.NOV.2014, WEAVER will make their fourth appearance at Sketchers Sundown Festival 2014,  right in the heart of Singapore (their second home).

:WEAVER OFFICIAL SITE: :WEAVER’S FACEBOOK:

I took this opportunity to ask the members of the band what inspired them to write their music as well as hear more about their journey through Asia! Let’s hear what they have to say!

[INTERVIEW WITH WEAVER]

1) What are the obstacles you have faced before starting out your band and how did you overcame them?

Yuji: Before debut, we had another member who played guitar. When we were 19 years old, the other member decided to go another direction. He didn’t want to become a professional musician. We wanted to keep playing music but we were not sure how we could get over this obstacle. One day, a staff who was working at the live house advised that we should become a piano trio. This advice made us become what we are today. This advice was very important to our music career.

Toru: Without this advice we would not have debuted in Japan. We are very grateful and still keep in touch with the staff.

2) Your music talks a lot about the subject of love. One of your biggest hits, “Hard to say I love you”. What spurred you to write this song?

Toru: This song was written especially for Japanese TV drama as a theme song. We read through the entire script to understand the story and got inspiration from the drama title, “Hard to say I love you”.

3) Your music also gives people hope to face their fears when approaching love. Do you have any advice for your listeners seeking out love?

Toru: Please listen to our music and lyrics. We hope our songs will cheer you up!

4) Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians who have problems expressing their feelings into music?

Toru: Whenever I met with a problem in writing lyrics, I always try to read books or watch movies to find inspirations so that would be my advice. I definitely recommend to watch more concerts.

Syota: Another approach is to stay away from music for a while to refresh your mind.

5) Lastly, do you have anything you would like to say to your fans in Singapore?

Yuji: We are really looked forward to seeing our fans, as it has been a long time since the last time performance!

Syota: We went to London to improve our English. Taking this opportunity at Sketchers Sundown Festival, we hope to have good conversation with the audience. We would like you come and see our improvement!

Toru: One of the reasons we went to London was to learn English  so we can relate to people in Singapore. Singapore is the first city we performed abroad so Singapore fans are special to us. We are thankful for their warm support and they are our motivation to learn English.

In an interview with MTV81.com, Syota explains further as to what actually spurred them to learn English…

MTV81.com: “Why did you start thinking about an overseas audience?”

Syota: “We’ve always imagined ourselves playing abroad. During our first concert in Singapore two or three years ago we discovered that we had a small, but dedicated fan base. That show made us realize the power of English as communication tool.”

*Read more about their exciting journey and experience through London on their web column, only on MTV18.com!

Some background information about the band:

Debuted in 2007, the 3 members formed『WEAVER』as a piano rock band and started their performances mainly at the live house “VARIT” in Kobe.

The bands line-up is as follows; Yuji Sugimoto (Piano & Vocal), Syota Okuno (Bass & Chorus) & Toru Kawabe (Drum & Chorus).

With  the inception of their first national performance, the band officially moved to Tokyo in April 2010. Their first single album “Hard to say I love you~iidasenakute~” was produced by the famous music producer Mr. Kameda Seiji. The song was featured as the theme song of the Fuji TV series “Hard to Say I Love You”.

The band’s first ever appearance in Singapore, started back in 2012 with a performance alongside fellow pop band Applicat Spectra at SCAPE Warehouse. Since then, they have made two trips, one on the same year (in September) and another when they took part in  “J-Rock Matters” for “Music Matters 2013” (which happens to be one of the world’s three largest music trade fairs).
